At last I am cancer free!!!!

It is Feb of 2016 and I am finally told by my doctors that there is no more cancer in my body…at least from the knees to the brows…don’t know yet about my head…lol….since I have been so forgetful lately.

I thought I was free of the cancer in 2014, but in 2015 a piece of the cancer that was in my cervix had traveled to my groin area so I had to have more radiation, but for only a month this time instead of 3 and chemo for a few sessions, but this time the chemo they gave me made me bald.  I was so thankful the last chemo I had in 2014 didn’t make me lose my hair, but this time it did…I was very upset to see it come out in clumps each time I tried to comb it or even run my fingers thru my hair. I cried every time.

It is now Feb of 2016 and I just turned 70 on the 7th, and my hair is still very short and not growing at all…so every day that I have to go out of my house, I cover my head, and even in the house, because my head is cold, I wear a hat of sorts.

I had a ct scan and an ultra sound of my lady parts and no cancer is seen so I am very happy!

Thank you anyone who reads this and replies, since I am feeling better, I will be back on to respond to any and all replies…thank you so much for being here and I will also be by your blogs to read and reply.

Almost dying has changed my life

All of 2014 has been one emergency after another with me and my body.

It all started on Easter Sunday of 2014 when I was taken to the emergency room because I had complete renal failure.  My middle daughter saw me all bloated sitting in the dark on my couch trying to watch tv…but of course I knew within myself I was dying.

I have 3 children, all grown up and my middle one lived in a small trailer on my small lot and she came up that one evening and called my youngest right away. So here comes my youngest with her husband and they take me to the hospital.

I knew there was something wrong with my body of course, but I didn’t want to tell my family because I didn’t want to worry them. But in myself I knew I was on my death bed. I was 68 and I figured, ok, I have lived a good life, dying won’t be so bad if I go quickly.

My youngest didn’t want to question me, she knew I was sick and just left me to my own thoughts on the entire ride to the emergency room.

I found out both of my kidneys were blocked by a large mass in my cervix and I was put in ICU until a doctor could come in and help with my kidneys. They told my girls another couple of hours and I would have been in a coma of death.  I laid there in bed with bottles hanging of antibiotic and whatever else was going into my vein for 3 days until they took me into the operating room to give my kidneys some relief…but only one kidney could be saved with a stent into the left kidney and bladder.  The large cancer mass still blocked my right kidney and the doc could not stent that one.

After the operation I spent 2 more days in the hospital and then sent home to seek help with my right kidney at another hospital 60 miles away. A few weeks later, I had a nephrostomy tube and bag inserted into my right kidney to save my kidney and let the urine escape out of my body. It was very hard for me to get used to the bag of urine hanging and trying to find ways of hiding it when in public. I hated it!!!!

After this my body went through some radical changes. I had radiation every day for the next 3 months and chemo every week for 2 months. But after all this the mass in my cervix was gone and I was cancer free….yippee!!!!!

I didn’t lose my hair so I was happy over that. I kept thinking how it would feel to be bald and I did not want to see all my hair gone, but it did not happen and I was relieved when all my hair stayed on my head.

That first time in the hospital was not my last, I had to be admitted again 3 1/2 months later because the stent in my left kidney quit working, so again another stent was put in and all was fine again. Again 5 days spent in a room in the hospital.

My Urologist that was taking care of my kidney problems wanted me to go to another hospital to see if they could repair my ureters because all the radiation I had shredded them and the urine could not be passed so he was hoping a University hospital could maybe help me. The closest one to me was almost a 5 hour drive from my home. I kept the appointment to see another urologist and after looking at Xrays of my kidneys and ureters, there was no way to repair them and because I was so old, opening me up to see if they could fix my problem was not an option because he said that maybe they could not repair them and it would be a very serious operation and he felt I was not well enough to have it and he recommended I continue with the stents.

So I would have to live the rest of my life with stents in my body to carry the urine from my kidneys to the bladder and out. The one I had then in my left kidney should be replaced every 3 to 4 months and so in November, that stent got plugged with kidney stones and again I had to go to the emergency room in my local hospital, and because there was no urologist on call that night, I had to be transported in an ambulance on that 5 hour drive to the University hospital. My blood pressure was so low they knew if I didn’t get help within the next few hours, I would be dead. With the lights and wailing from the siren, I think we made it in record time, maybe only 3 1/2 hours, but to be strapped on the small bed in the ambulance was not a very comfortable ride to say the least and it seemed like forever to me.

ICU again and again bottles of antibiotics and whatever else they had going into my veins, they put a contraption on my neck into my artery with multi ports to accommodate all the stuff flowing into my body. It looked like an octopus hanging on my neck with tubes from it to bottles hanging above me. I think the other doctors and nurses in my local hospital tried to get something flowing into my veins, but it was impossible because my veins had collapsed in my hands and arms. I had no idea what was going on around me, I was in a fog and listless.

After a couple of days in ICU, I was taken into an operating room and another nephrostomy tube was inserted into my left kidney. So now I had two bags of urine hanging off my body. I was in tremendous pain as well. That tube stuck into my left kidney hurt like the devil when they stuck it into my body and for the entire time afterwards. And even after taking it out later on, the pain still continues to this day.

So for 5 days I lay in a bed with the urine flowing like a river on a very rainy day. The nurses had to empty it like every hour or so. I had a very hard time sleeping because now with both of my sides with a tube sticking out of my back, how to lay and be comfortable was a full time job and it was never resolved until the day before I was released, my urologist operated on me and took off both tubes from my back and inserted stents into my kidneys. I still had the tubes into the kidneys, but both bags were gone….yeah!!!! I felt like a large boulder was lifted off of me.

I was released from the hospital the day after Thanksgiving. On Friday, my family had a beautiful Thanksgiving feast waiting for me when I got home. I was relived to be out of the hospital and home again. The ride home was very exhausting but nothing could keep me from enjoying home with my family and digging into that turkey, mashed potatoes and steamed veggies…..it was all soooo good!

It is now May 2015. I am still cancer free. I have stents in both kidneys to bladder but these new stents can last in my body for up to a year. They are metal stents where the other ones were some sort of plastic.  I have an appointment with my new Urologist this month to see if I need to get these stents replaced. That first year they want to be cautious to be sure they don’t get clogged and cause me more problems and more ER visits.

I do not want any more hospital stays. Each time I lose so much weight, and its very hard to get back to normal again. My energy level is still not good. I get very tired when doing anything strenuous. I love being outdoors and doing things in my yard. Planting flowers and maybe having a veggie garden, but I do not think I will be able to do much this year.

I am alive and hope things go smoothly from this day forward.  I thank my children every day for saving my life. If on that fateful night my middle daughter didn’t come in and see me all bloated, I would not be here writing about my ordeals. Thank you girls for keeping me alive and thank God and his angels for giving me such beautiful and caring family.

Hello everyone who has been following me and checking my pages out!

Hello WordPress friends.

I have not been on here it seems like forever. Since the end of April when I ended in the hospital with complete renal failure and cervical cancer. So for the entire 9 months till today, I have been in the hospital, getting radiation and chemo to rid the cancer out of my body….and it worked….I am cancer free. But with all the radiation my kidneys and ureters from the kidney to the bladder were hurt and they cannot carry the urine from my body. So I have stents in both ureters to help me with my kidneys. I have to learn to live this way for the rest of my life.

I have been hospitalized 4 times for from 5 days to 8 days. The latest one was just a few weeks ago up in Portland Oregon at the Health and Sciences University for 8 days. And that is a 5 hour drive from my home. An ambulance took me up from the hospital near me to the 5 hour drive away one where I spent most of my time between the ICU, operating room and the bed in my room. I came home on Thanksgiving day and my family prepared a feast for me on Friday so we could all be together and the food was wonderful to enjoy.

I am hopeful that my condition will improve as the days and weeks go by and hope to be back here telling more stories and showing more pictures of my fur kids and anything that strikes my fancy.

I want to wish everyone a very happy New Year of 2015.

A tail of a cat

My cat Oscar has one of the longest tails I have ever seen. He is about 6 months old and he is still on the thin side but his tail is so long and fuzzy. I dont know if its a record length on a tail of a cat, but it is 14 inches long.  I measured the other 3 cats I have and their tails are shorter than Oscar’s.  I wish I knew what breed he is. If anyone can tell me I would love to know.

Since he came to me in a box that someone dropped off, he and his brother Jasper have been thriving and keeping me up at night when they decide to run and play. Its usually when I am trying to sleep and they decide its play time.

I hope you enjoy the pictures of my fuzzy little guy.

Big Black Bull

More fun times on our ranch, this time with a big black bull.

As I have mentioned in previous posts, I lived on a ranch/farm. We had 100 acres, some was flat fields for hay, and the rest was uphill forested land.

One day my mom and I were out in the bottom 3 fields checking the fence to make sure no breaks anywhere where our cows could get out. We got to the middle field and there were all the 26 cows plus one big black Bull.

They were towards the far end of the field, so we didn’t think our walking would affect them in any way. We didn’t want to have a stampede on our hands if we scared them.

They were all eating or laying down and didn’t even look at us while we walked…But that dang Bull saw us. Now my mom and I were about 200-300 feet from him and his cows, but I guess he thought our intrusion into his space was not going to be tolerated.

He started to snort and he put his head down and pawed the ground several times and I thought oh oh, I yelled at my mom to RUN!

She took off running and so did I ….she went around another fence and tried to close the gate and I wasn’t too far behind her, but I for sure wanted to make sure she was safe so I lagged behind. If he was going to get either of us, I wanted it to be me and not mom.

We both made it around the fence and pulled the gate shut so he couldn’t get at us…but he only ran half way at us and stopped…pawed the ground several more times and snorted to let us know…Yup stay away from my cows or else!

Funny about bulls, I guess they are quite protective of their harem of cows…and that one incident kept us from walking out in the field with that bull around ever again. …he was a big Brangus Bull with a hump on his back and he weighed way over a 1000 pounds. {Brangus is half Angus and half Brahma bull}

Yup life on a farm/ranch can be quite scary at times….but we never thought he would charge at us. We always go out with hay and feed them all and he has always been very docile but I guess the hay was ok to come close with but if just walking, he was either protecting his cows or he wanted to play…well if it was his play time, I don’t want to play his games or with him!

this picture of him is the black critter on the right, and those are his cows.

How many of you know the benefits of coconut oil?

I saw Dr. Oz one day and he was talking about the surprising health benefits of coconut oil.

It is a heart healthy food, mounts resistance against virus and bacteria, can help to fight off yeast, fungus and candida. Coconut oil can also positively affect our hormones for thyroid and blood-sugar control. It can help with ageing, from the time of infancy through the senior years, coconut oil is a wonderful moisturizer for skin and hair. There are other benefits also for our bodies, so please if you have issues with your skin, hair or other things wrong, this may help you….its worth a try right?

Does coconut oil have side effects?

The literature suggests that coconut oil is quite safe to take in reasonable amounts. While no formal study has figured out the exact amount for optimal benefit, it appears one to two tablespoons a day can be beneficial.

If you want to read more, go to Dr. Oz’s page here www.doctoroz.com/videos/surprising-health-benefits-coconut-oil
and also this other site: wellnessmama.com/2072/benefits-of-coconut-oil/

I have also been reading about what it does for pets. Since my dog Coco has itchy skin, I have started giving it to her twice a day, 2 teaspoons in the morning meal and 2 in the evening meal. Its only been a couple of weeks, but I think her skin is less itchy than it was before I started giving it to her. Before, I couldn’t even touch the top of her back without her doing a dance moving her body all the way to the floor, but now I can touch her and pet her and even scratch around her tail and she stands still….and loves it. Its good for all animals, cats, dogs, horses, cows and other farm animals.

I hope everyone tries this product and see the difference it makes if you have a pet in distress. I am glad I bought some for myself to use and now I am giving it to my dog and will start to give it to my cats also. For a large container as pictured above, it is only $22.00 at costco. It is 78 fl. ozs. I am not a spokesperson for this product, just wanted to mention all the benefits to a better healthier life for all the who come on and read my posts.

My daughter Vicky went and took a few pictures today of the creek that runs along my property. I thought it looked almost tropical and it almost makes me wish it was hot enough to go dip my feet into the water.

Usually this is my spot to go and sit in the shade on a nice soft moss covered boulder when the heat gets too unbearable.  And yes that is a waterfall above beyond the tree branches and leaves.

A ‘Question’ ?

Today being Martin Luther King’s birthday, I thought a poem for our world would be a great way to end this holiday. Its too bad people cant be like our fur kids, they don’t care what color their brothers or sisters are….they love no matter what.

Why so much we don’t understand
So many that are so different
Lands hidden behind so many colors
When inside we are all imperfect

Hate abounds with race and gender
Why is this so
When we are all made of skin and bone
No matter of our tone

Our eyes and hair all of different hue
Our stature short or tall
So why does hate take president
In so many minds and souls

Will there ever be a loving race
Of persons on this earth
To embrace each other no matter what color
To find love within the skin
Replace hate and bigotry
With love for all who be

Someday maybe but not this year
Too much tension in the air
Maybe in the distant future eyes will see
Not of color but inner beauty
Will be the normalcy

CANDY, the Sweetheart

My other fur dog, she is a very sweet and lovey dog.

She came into my household after her owner went to prison. He saved her from the humane society when she was only a baby, a tiny little pooch. And before he went in, he asked me to take care of her. And I have for the last couple of years now. She is a lovey dog, and so very sweet.

Her and Coco are sisters from another mother and father but sisters none the less. They love each other very much, and Candy is so in love with Coco, she will wait for her to come back into the house when I let them out in the morning. Candy always comes back first and Coco always goes out looking for deer turds to eat first. Candy will sit by the door and look for her sis to come back.

Candy loves watermelon and banana’s, apples, pears and any thing I like to eat she will try it. I don’t give her anything that will make her sick. Once I gave her some small orange slices and I guess she ate too many and was sick all night long, puking. That taught me a lesson to check out what foods dogs can and cannot eat.

Candy loves all things fur. She loves my 4 cats and the new dog on the block…Loki my daughters little puppy. The only ones she hates are the two dogs across the creek. But it was never like that in the beginning. She wanted to go and play with them every chance she could. If she saw them in the creek on their side, she would run over with her tail wagging and wanted to play. Puppies are like that, always in the mood to play. But those two dogs, Husky sisters and they would always try to bite her and beat on her body. Finally Candy grew out of being nice and now she wants to beat on them whenever she can. Especially after they bit her on the face.

But overall Candy is a sweetee all the way. She is a barker thou and her bark is very annoying. She is a mix of a few breeds, so I just think of her as Heinz 57. She is my love and I hope for a very long time.

My Coco

My dog Coco and how we came to be together is because the family who had her didnt want her anymore. They were moving into an apartment and couldnt take her but I really didnt think they even loved her to begin with. They liked her fine while she was still a puppy but after she got bigger, they had her tied up on a very small porch and the rope was only long enough for her to do her business and thats it.  She never barked I guess because they kept telling her to shut up because they lived in the middle of a junk yard and lots of people coming and going so she had to be kept quiet.

Now Coco has me and a good home. A warm house to sleep in and a yard big enough to go anywhere she wants and do her business.  She is never tied up, she is a good dog and still never barks.

She loves to play fetch with anything and anyone. You have a ball or rock or pine cone and she will run and fetch it back to you. Sometimes she wont give it back but eventually she will give it up because she wants to run some more. She really loves a frisbee. She loves to run after it, jump and grab it with her teeth. I have gone thru many frisbees with Coco.

Only problem with her is her skin. She is alergic to something and I dont know what it is. Its probably my carpet but I cant help that. I have tried every medication out on the market to help her but I have not taken her in to get tested. I just dont have the money to dish out on allergy tests, I heard they can run into hundreds of bucks. So right now I am giving her coconut oil in her food morning and night feedings. I hope it helps her with her itchy skin. I have tried different foods for her and nothing seems to help.

I love her and want her to be happy and I hate to see her in misery especially in the summer months when its hot outside is when she seems to be more itchy. She will lick and chew herself raw and its usually right around the tail and her butt area. And no she does not have fleas, I check her all the time and put the meds on her neck to keep them and the ticks away.

She is a sweet dog but she does not like the twin terrors, Jasper and Oscar…at least not yet. Hopefully in time the family of furs will love and be nice to each other.
